Tim Melling – Giant River Otter

This Giant River Otter looks like a rock star singing into a microphone  It even has its eyes closed as if it is really concentrating.  What it’s really doing is eating an Armoured Catfish tail first.  It has managed to scuff its knuckles and head, probably by bumping into things in that opaque water.  Giant River Otter is the longest member of the Weasel family reaching 1.7m and can weigh up to 32kg.  It is classified as endangered by the IUCN as its habitat has depleted by 80%.  One of its last strongholds is Brazil’s Pantanal, where I photographed this one.
