Yes, it’s been a really bad few days for the grouse shooters Bad days (1), Bad days (2), Bad days (3), Bad days (4), Bad days (5), Bad days (6), Bad days (7), Bad days (8).
And added to all that, there were the recent results of the 2016 Hen Harrier survey which showed a further decline in Hen Harrier numbers despite the Hen Harrier Inaction Plan and all those shooting organisations pretending to be the Hen Harrier’s best friend.
And then this year’s nesting numbers were released for England – 3 successful pairs out of a pitiful 7 in total with none on grouse moors. Another year of failure for the Hen Harrier Inaction Plan and Defra’s unreliable friends the grouse shooters.
It really doesn’t look good when government ministers have gone through ridiculous contortions to give a narrow interest group its way, and then that narrow interest group cannot deliver any form of progress away from illegality from their membership as a whole. It’s a bit like being made to look like a fool by your mates…
And then, to cap it all, despite the lack of Hen Harriers for years, it’s going to be a poor year for grouse bags too.
It’s been a bad few days for the grouse shooters, but things won’t get any better for them until they either give up or change their ways so dramatically that it will look as though they have gone away.

Birdfair17 starts Friday, so let’s hope the media cover it especially the debates and numbers of attendees sporting Hen Harrier Day T-Shirts?
If the media cover the Game Fair / Fair Game event then Bird Fair to balance the two ‘sporting’ shows?
Another opportunity to maintain and build the momentum?
Just tried to get on the ‘Shooting Times ‘ web site to see if they had any figures in yet for what is going to be another record year for Red Grouse shot and IT Was Blocked!!
The site was blocked because it matched the following categories:
Weapons, Violence, Gore and Hate
And I did not make it up!
