Here we go again…

I really hope that this e-petition by Gavin Gamble (whom I don’t know personally) crashes through the 10,000 signatures mark very quickly and then heads rapidly past 20k, 30k, 40k, 50k, 60k, 70k, 80k, 90k and 100k signatures.

It’s a long way – but it’s feasible and I’ll be promoting this e-petition as if it were my own, so I’d ask you please, if you signed previous e-petitions on this subject to sign this one too.

Here is the link to sign the e-petition.

I was way off the pace in signing this one – 104 places later than usual. By the time I went to bed last night it had passed 2000 signatures – a very good start.

  1. Not so quick off the blocks as you Mark, but about no.130! A little sceptical not having heard of Gavin and his background. I read the supporting information and googled Gavin and his Website and Facebook profile. All convincing but ultimately persuaded by your endorsement!

  2. It’s at 3200 at the moment. I think the attitude of the RSPB and wildlife trusts is key. Even if they don’t actively tell their members to support it, they could publicise it and thus encourage the membership to consider the petition.

  3. I can’t help thinking that this will need to surpass your figure by some margin in order to persuade the government to give it a second go. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the message has spread a lot further in the last year, so we shall see. I certainly will be contacting the same potential signatories as before, but will be adding a bit of info about the disgraceful charade that was the last “debate.” My biggest concern is the lack of support from other parties and, for me, that has to be the principal way forward alongside the new petition.

    1. Aye, I’ve just posted the petition on fb and made mention of that debacle. I spoke to a senior civil servant some weeks ago who told me in all his years in government he had never seen anything like it, it was a smarmfest. It wasn’t a great advert for driven grouse shooting on the principle of ‘if you judge a man by his friends’, but it was for getting rid of DGS and its cronies.

  4. Signed it shooting should be banned were there are eagles buzzards hen harrier peregrine ect

  5. Think the most important thing is it keeps it in the eye of any supporters and means the issue is not going away.
    Seriously well done Gavin.Let’s hope the RSPB gives it backing in their mag even if they prefer licensing.
    No doubt in my mind what is really needed is the RSPB to become vocal on the issue one way or another, that could alter things quickly.

  6. Thanks for the support guys – I genuinely believe we can do this, but yes – maintaining the levels is key, as is trying to get some of the bigger NGOs on side, especially the RSPB – no easy feat!

    1. I’m not sure what time the petition went live so I couldn’t do a first 24 count but (in case you didn’t see it) by the end 3rd October the total of signatories was; 4,481.
      Nice to see was that every constituency in Northern England, East Anglia, and the West Country already had signatories with just a few without them in other regions;

      Scotland: 1 (SNP held)
      South Coast: 1 (Conservative)
      Midlands: 3 (2 Labour, 1 Conservative)
      Northern Ireland: 3 (all Sinn Fien)
      Wales: 4 (all Labour)
      London: 6 (5 Labour, 1 Conservative)
      Total constituencies without signatures: 18 (11 Labour, 3 Conservative, 3 Sinn Fein, 1 SNP)
      Total constituencies with signatures: 632

      Early leaders;
      Ross, Skye & Lochaber: 36
      Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey: 33
      Banbury: 27
      Calder Valley: 25
      Ochil and South Perthshire: 25
      North Norfolk: 24
      Sheffield Hallam: 24
      Argyll and Bute: 22
      High Peak: 22
      Stroud: 22

      1. Jim – you’re right on it aren’t you?

        Yes Gavin Gamble’s new e-petition has got off to a very good start.

        I’m interested to see Banbury up there so early. That’s a strong showing!

        1. All perfectly timed from a personal point of view, Mark; the fieldwork phase of my year is winding down and regularly checking the petition does make a wonderful distraction from writing reports etc.!
