Yesterday was the last day of the grouse shooting season for 2017 – Gavin Gamble’s e-petition seeks to make that cessation a permanent one and following yesterday’s thunderclap his e-petition is approaching 19,000 signatures and the list of ’50-signature’ constituencies has reached 64 constituencies (last week – 51).  Each of these constituencies has more signatures than the whole of the UK has so far delivered for the rival e-petition in support of grouse shooting (see below).  But there’s a long way to go.  And there is the likelihood, that a third e-petition, in favour of licensing of game shooting will emerge, soon, too.

Meanwhile, rooted in the nineteenth century, there is a rival e-petition in support of grouse shooting which has now amassed 27 signatures.  Here’s the map of signatures (the grey areas are constituencies with no signatures).

  1. A certain ex Gamekeeper is declaring the pro grouse shooting petition is a fake, set up by anti shooters. Quite why anyone who’s against driven grouse shooting would bother to do this is a mystery to me. The man’s paranoid. Perhaps that’s what happens when you spend so much time obsessing on social media?

    1. A stupid argument, they should hijack it and take for their own ends. Either way it will not get many signatures. Meanwhile ours approaches 19K

  2. Disappointed that Richmondshire doesn’t feature on the list. It is one of main areas in the UK for offenses against raptors.

  3. Sheffield Central has dropped down the league a touch but that’s perhaps not surprising as we are currently under siege by a private army of enforcers, along with increasingly dangerous subcontractor Acorn, working at the behest of Sheffield Labour Party and their PFI partners Amey. It’s pretty scary on the streets at times but we are still holding the line!

Hallam is still hanging up there at the top end, though, and no doubt the rest of us will return to the fray with more vigor when we’ve dealt with this particular lot of ne’er do wells!

As for the ‘rival petition’; be fair, Mark, they now have a good 5 signatures from grouse shooting areas, solid!

  4. Looks like seven more needed for 19,000.Well done Gavin another small milestone will be reached.
Fact is you have kept the problem in peoples minds and getting persecution stopped will be a long drawn out job and will be accomplished by lots of small steps with some larger ones in the mix but make no mistake these small ones will be very important.

  5. Woe is me, some ecological illiterate has signed the pro petition from this constituency ( Harrogate and Knaresborough) Thankfully I will be moving soon.

  6. Oh dear its even worse than I thought the four signatures in this constituency make it the most in any, the next nearest is 2!! Harrogate is officially the most ecologically illiterate constituency! Be even worse after I move.

  7. Surprised when checked my constituency that five have signed the rival one and not even a Grouse within two hundred miles I wager.

  8. Have either CA/GWCT/MA etc sent the ‘Don’t ban Grouse Shooting’ petition out to its members? Sudden leap from 6 signatures to 396 signatures in just two days!

    1. SG – yes they’re having a spurt. Doesn’t look like Moorland Assoc membership. More like National Gamekeepers Org????

      1. Heartland grouse shooting constituencies like North Herefordshire, Chelsea and Fulham and City of Westminster leading the way once more. Interesting to see that High Peak and Ribble Valley have 1 between them.
Tim Weston (@arrettacrown) Development Officer for the NGO highlighted the petition a couple of days ago

  9. Ban grouse shooting if landowners are unable or not capable of protecting our indigenous birds of prey. Red Grouse is not an indigenous species of the UK it was introduced in early 1900s . Black grouse is our indigenous species which is in decline.

    1. Kimberley – thanks for your support – but Red Grouse is indeed a wild UK species (the British race of the Willow Grouse)
