When readers guessed at how many signatures Gavin Gamble’s e-petition would get, the carefully crafted estimates were as follows:
Name | Estimate | |
---|---|---|
Keith | 71604 | |
Steven | 61255 | |
Colin | 55155 | |
Mike | 51345 | |
Paul F | 47574 | |
Jonathan | 45217 | |
Adrian | 43527 | |
Gerard | 42962 | |
Ben | 42876 | |
Paul | 42573 | |
Owen | 42334 | |
Alister | 42073 | |
Hugh | 42042 | |
Simon | 40107 | |
Philip | 40040 | |
Nick | 39987 | |
Louise | 38012 | |
Well, with eight and a half days to go, Louise, Nick and Philip have already lost out and Simon would need a massive slowdown to stand any chance! And that might happen as we are heading for a week when many will be on holiday and doing other things over the Bank Holiday weekend when the e-petition stops on Easter Monday.
There were no takers for the 41,000s but several for the 42,000s – and those could well be in the right region. But at current rates things could go quite a bit higher (I hope so) into the mid 40,000s.
But if Keith, Steven, Colin or Mike are to be close then there will have to be 1000+ signatures/day until midnight on 2 April. That is possible but seems unlikely unless the four of them start putting some pretty heavy investment in telephoning an awful lot of friends! Maybe that’s what we should all be doing.
For what it’s worth – I think Adrian is favourite to win at this stage with Jonathan as next best bet.
40,000+ is a great achievement. 45,000 would be even better! Have you asked your partner to sign this petition? That might be an easy way to get one extra signature…

I think that the Wild Life Trusts and the League Against Cruel Sports could put out a dedicated email specifically promoting Gavin’s petition. It is not as though it costs them a great deal…
There are other petition sites (not associated with Parliament) which actively promote petitions…
I sent all my out-of-county pleas to Barking:-)
Best of Luck Gavin:-)
Keith – LACS did do that a while agio. Maybe there will be another one this week (but don’t count on it). The Wildlife Trusts don’t know what they are doing on this subject as a partnership so you won’t see an email from them!
