Bird Fair Day 1

I’m just a lightweight – I’m home after a day at the Bird Fair and opening a bottle of wine at 18:30 rather than going to the evening debate (which looks very good) and pushing on through into the night!

Ten good things about today:

  1. I met lots of friends
  2. I met lots of people I know
  3. I met lots of people I didn’t know, but now I do
  4. There are more people to meet tomorrow
  5. The vegetable samosas were delicious – but ran out early at lunchtime which was a bit of a shame
  6. We got hundreds of signatures on the petition to the Icelandic PM asking for an end to whaling in Iceland (I don’t know how many hundreds as I don’t have all the distributed sheets of paper with me).
  7. I went to a talk by Mark Carwardine which was great – witty and informative at the same time – and he signed the petition and waved it around at the end of his talk which was very good of him.
  8. There were lots of Hen Harrier T-shirts in evidence – I think I’ll be wearing one tomorrow but I wore one publicising the Walk for Wildlife (on 22 September in Hyde Park from 10am) today.
  9. Wildsounds sold a few books of mine and I signed some of them – back on their stand at 11am tomorrow morning and at 2pm on Sunday
  10. This was Day 1 and there are two more days to go and there are plenty of places I haven’t even been on the site yet.

  1. Good to see you there today Mark and very pleased to sign your petition. Hope it does the trick and hope to see you again tomorrow.

  2. I was there today too and am one of the chaps in the photo at Mark Carwardines talk, the first time I’ve ‘appeared’ in the blog! I’m well chuffed. I didn’t realise you were behind us. I had an interesting chat with a member of the RSPB Investigations team and found the talk by Martin Sims of the LACS very informative. There was some heartbreaking footage of Honey Buzzards being slaughtered in Leabanon from Axel Hirschfeld of CABS during his lecture. I hope they get a few quid in donations as they are doing important work highlighting these atrocities. Really enjoyed the fish & chips too.

  3. Passed by, but you were deep in conversation, so didn’t get to say hello. Did have a good rattle with “Len” Cantello, though!
P.S. A fiver for a pint of flat bitter! Do they think we’re made of money?

  4. As Alan says, lovely to see you again and happy to add signature to the petition and hope that it helps send a message.

Of messages and t-shirts, pleased that I wore a Chris Packham Hen Harrier design, but Walk for Wildlife is good too.
