Let’s give this a push in the next three weeks

I’d like to see Les Wallace’s e-petition for a proper economic study of grouse shooting get a response from Defra. To do so it needs to acquire 5,520 signatures in 19 days – that’s 291 signatures each day. That’s a very big ask but it is certainly possible.

See Les’s guest blog on the subject of his e-petition – click here.

  1. Thanks for the plug Mark. Just want to take this opportunity to thank those who have been supportive so far. Terry Pickford pushed me into writing something to back up the petition which became the core of the guest blog you kindly posted here. James Common (rising young blogger) has been similarly great, and re moral support the team at the RSBP Skydancer Community Blog who endorsed it – thank you very much. Let’s Get Mad for Wildlife have been great, and I’ve always thought Iolo Williams was the greatest living Welshman, but now I know it (Diolch!). RPUK has also been a big help (cheers Ruth!) and of course Dr Avery has been brilliant. I must acknowledge my debt to Al Woodcock the founder of the ‘We Support Chris Packham’ Facebook page who we very sadly lost a few months ago, one of those remarkable people you encounter on social media you really wish you could meet in person. Sadly missed. It will be a great shame for all of them too if we don’t hit the 10,000 which shouldn’t have been a big ask, golden opportunity when a ‘poor’ grouse shooting season has shown the insanity of having rural jobs and businesses dependent on grouse chick productivity. Let’s face it it’s still crap in a ‘good’ year. Perhaps some of the organisations that should have been supportive will finally come on board, better late than never. The other side have as far as I am aware never made any reference to the petition on open social media platforms. I suspect that’s because they can’t afford to draw any attention to the idea of an independent economic study, politically it could annihilate them. A response for the petition is a lot bigger deal than it might appear. Anyway the champagne’s on ice for February the 2nd, fingers crossed.

    1. Led Wallace, you never did answer my comment on Lynx and young people by Chris Baker.
You accused me of predicting that the predation action group would get nowhere.
Time for you to admit you made that up and that I never even ever mentioned that group.

  2. I signed ages ago and sent then idea of signing around a lot of colleagues but will do so again.

  3. For the sake of clarity, and the truth, ( a lot of that ” Revive” stuff is beyond belief), I have tried to vote
for this a number of times.
I have never received an e-mail link for confirmation, and even contacting the site for manual confirmation has proved fruitless.
    I will however keep trying.

  4. Mark, thank you although I feel like continuing asking Les to admit making it up will not continue as it would misuse your blog.
Of course nothing he writes can be believed even does not believe in at least saying he made a mistake.

  5. A bit random but the editor of City A.M. mentioned this petition in his editor’s notes of Friday entitled “Gillette should join the campaign for a study into the economic benefits of grouse shooting”. It’s obstensibly about the new Gillette ad campaign which has riled a lot of manbabies but he says

“A petition to launch a study into the economic benefits of grouse shooting currently has 4,720 signatures on parliament’s website. Perhaps Gillette could lend it a helping hand?”

(The headline on their website differs to the one in the paper though: http://www.cityam.com/271818/editors-notes-its-easy-see-why-gillettes-latest-ad-not-best)
