International Bog Day (yesterday)

Yesterday was International Bog Day which reminded me that I recently got an email from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust thanking me for my donation to their peat appeal – an appeal which raised over £47,000 for peatland restoration work.

And here’s the team saying thank you! You don’t get many 3-second videos!

I notice there is no mention of International Bog Day on the Moorland Association webpage – bit of a slip up there Amanda!

With all those grouse moors in Yorkshire, on the North York Moors and in the Dales, I’m surprised that YWT weren’t flooded with donations from all those grouse moor owners – maybe they were. I wonder.

  1. How much work have NE done on establishing areas of peat bog in our uplands, as well as sites which could and should be restored to that state? Given previous photos, it’s clear that that many areas are still being completely mistreated in order to perpetuate heather dominance on grouse moors.
