- my car has passed the 250,000 miles barrier – that’s slightly more than the distance from Earth to our moon. I’m glad that wasn’t the journey I planned as I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t get me all the way back over the next dozen years or so!
- I haven’t seen a Redwing yet this autumn – nor heard one overhead in the evening
- Hurricane Lorenzo, apparently the strongest storm ever recorded in the far-east Atlantic, is heading our way. Birders will be expecting it to rain rare nearctic birds from the Scillies to Shetland over the next few days…
- …and I notice the first Waxwing of autumn has been seen on Shetland – a Waxwing winter for the rest of us?

- The sky here in east Northants is blue and cloudless. A quick look around the garden produced loads of wasps on the Ivy, a Great Spotted Woodpecker overhead, and two Red Admirals also on the Ivy.

Blue sky and strong winds today and in the distance the Jackdaws and crows (&rooks?) were enjoying a joyous windsurfing party in the updrafts round a copse.
yes, ivy has been buzzing with insects and birds recently. Doesn’t stop some Nazis pulling it off trees though.
