A few thoughts – rather random ones

  • where is the Werritty report – it’s October!
  • my car has passed the 250,000 miles barrier – that’s slightly more than the distance from Earth to our moon. I’m glad that wasn’t the journey I planned as I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t get me all the way back over the next dozen years or so!
  • I haven’t seen a Redwing yet this autumn – nor heard one overhead in the evening
  • Hurricane Lorenzo, apparently the strongest storm ever recorded in the far-east Atlantic, is heading our way. Birders will be expecting it to rain rare nearctic birds from the Scillies to Shetland over the next few days…
  • …and I notice the first Waxwing of autumn has been seen on Shetland – a Waxwing winter for the rest of us?
  • Chris Packham’s e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting passes 108,000 signatures – please sign here.
  • Also, Chris is awarded an Outstanding Animal Hero award this week – see here.
  • Pro grouse-shooting MP, and natural charmer (not), Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown gets banned from Conservative Party conference for being himself….
  • The sky here in east Northants is blue and cloudless. A quick look around the garden produced loads of wasps on the Ivy, a Great Spotted Woodpecker overhead, and two Red Admirals also on the Ivy.

  1. Blue sky and strong winds today and in the distance the Jackdaws and crows (&rooks?) were enjoying a joyous windsurfing party in the updrafts round a copse.

  2. yes, ivy has been buzzing with insects and birds recently. Doesn’t stop some Nazis pulling it off trees though.
