Lost in the post…?

I’m gutted of course not to have received my invitation to this important event organised by the GWCT.

Let’s hope the report is more accurate than the invitation. You’d think that the GWCT would know, somehow, that their chair, the often-amiable Sir James Paice, was never the Secretary of State for DEFRA but was the Minister of State under Caroline Spelman. It’s an odd thing to get wrong, and so wrong. But there you go.

And Richard Benyon doesn’t stick to the middle ground, or even firm ground, when he states that the actions of moorland managers like those featured in this pamphlet are ‘the last bulwark in what is a crisis of species decline across Britain’. Blimey, who knew?

There are some very weird things in this document but since it isn’t publised yet, I’ll leave it there.

Maybe in tomorrow’s post…

  1. See this is a great example of why burning moorland is so important. If left untouched then natural regeneration of woodland would take over – just look at the other side of that fence. That poor man is already up to the top of his wellies in his battle against Nature.

  2. Brace yourself Mark for the biggest disappointment of the year!!! I don’t think you are going to get an invitation from GWCT. I would guess this is because you are too capable of pulling their phoney so called “conservation” work to pieces. For example if they are saying that unless the moorlands are burnt then they will progress to woodland. However burning destroys so much wildlife such as the very important water absorbing sphagnum moss.and much of the insects. No one is saying, as far as I know, that LOW intensity wild or domestic animal grazing is not acceptable on moorland.
It sounds to me that GWCT are getting desperate to come up with schemes many of which will be ecologically unsound to show that they are doing good things when they shoot thousands of our birds and mountain hares for fun. Don’t be taken or fooled.

  3. They seem accidentally to have used the Moorland Association colour scheme too. Or perhaps the two organisations are merging and forgot to consult anyone.

  4. Sir James was, of course, the architect of the great forest sales fiasco – and he lost his job as a Minister for it, and brought down his boss, Caroline Spellman which was a shame as she was the only environment SosS since 2010 who even faintly looked as if she meant it. But Sir James hasn’t learnt (as Mark’s non-invitation proves) that you can get in a terrible mess if you only talk to people you know agree with you……

  5. Have you had that invitation yet which you won’t get, because you know too much !!!
