April 2020 on this blog

Google Analytics tells me that this blog had over 111,000 pageviews in April – that’s slightly down on the 117,000 pageviews last April (but then NE didn’t withdraw the general licences this year). Any month on this blog, particularly one with 30 days rather than 31, with 100,000+ pageviews is noteworthy. There were four 100k+ months last year and there have been two already (February and April) this year.

The peak at the end of last April (2019) was entirely due to general licence interest. This April, the hump in mid April was when this blog essentially broke the news of NE licensing the taking of Peregrine Falcon chicks from the wild, and the guest blog by Gary Wall, one of the falconers involved. Bob Elliot’s guest blog today shows that interest in this subject remains strong. The earlier peak, on 8 April, is somewhat puzzling to me – it relates to a massive surge in interest in one post, a press release from the National Trust which was published on 6 April, about a stretch of coast that is a golf course. It feels as though some newletter, maybe of irate golfers or of proud National Trust members, pointed its readership to this blog. Maybe so.

And there were nearly 23,000 users of this blog in April – the highest total since August and April 2019.

Thanks for reading this blog!

  1. 100,000 seems to be a magic number at present. Presumably yours is not manipulated, Mark!
