Just a taster

I requested some stuff from Natural England – a sample of the application forms for successful applications for conservation licences made last year – see here for a quck update. I got a pile of stuff the other day and I will work my way through it this weekend.

But here is a taster of the info that Natural England felt was sufficient to merit the granting of a licence to kill birds:

It’s as easy as that to get permission to kill things – unlimited numbers of Carrion Crow, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Jackdaw and Jay.

Shocking! Utterly shocking!

More on this on Monday.

  1. The taster is pretty revolting so what the main course is like heaven knows. The more one sees of Natural England the more one is revolted by them.. At the management and administration level they really have no relevance ar all to nature conservation. They just act to put into practice all the likes and dislikes of the farming industry, mainly the NFU, the shooting industry and any other industry that interfaces with the natural world, whenever these industries claim that nature is getting in their way.
Natural England is a complete disgrace. Nature would be much better off without them.

  2. Dear Natural England
Please clarify which species of bird; carrion crow, jackdaw, jay or lesser black backed gull, eats or damages trees?
If somebody applied for licence to kill these birds in order to protect trees should you…
a:- issue the licence without any rational thought or
b: phone the police and beg them to remove the applicants shotgun licence?

  3. I may be being dim but I am not even sure what “the carrying spect eat chick eggs and crops” even means. Did the person processing the application seek any clarification?

One gets the impression that the application is not even read through. It might be an amusing experiment to submit an application filled with random words to see if it is successful!
