  1. I entirely agree with the article. It seems to me that there is little doubt that the architects of Brexit are itching to remove some of the protections for wildlife, the wider environment, workers health and safety and so on that they perceive as being ‘red tape’ foisted upon us by Brussels.

Another factor not mentioned in the article is the potential impact of any trade negotiations with the US. Having burned our bridges with the EU, the UK government will be desperate to achieve a trans-Atlantic deal and with its position weakened from the outset will find it difficult to resist making a variety of concessions to get one. I would be prepared to see environmental protection getting thrown under the bus in this scenario – especially given the lack of enthusiasm the government already shows towards these protections.

  2. The Tories plan is to get rid of legislation that protects anything and anyone from exploitation.
They care for nothing but profit at any cost to anything.

  3. Well said all three of you that is, Mark, Jonathan Wallace and Daniel you are all on the button. It has long been the hidden aim of the Tories to remove all our wildlife and environmental protection.
One just hopes that in Scotland, the SNP, in Wales and in Northern Ireland, the Government’s there take a much less destructive view of wildlife and the environment and maintain the protection rights similar to those that existed when we were in the EU.
