This is from SOVON in The Netherlands https://www.sovon.nl/actueel/nieuwsberichten/opnieuw-veel-wilde-vogels-getroffen-door-vogelgriep:
‘The current outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus, which has been causing increased bird mortality in the Netherlands since November, is spreading rapidly. Barnacle geese in the north of the Netherlands are particularly hard hit, but the virus has also been detected in other species and in other areas.’
The table in the short article has four columns; positive, negative, under investigation and total (which is more than the publicly available UK data show);
English names of species:
- Brandgans, Barnacle Goose
- Buizerd, Buzzard
- Graue Gans, Greylag Goose
- Grote Mantelmeeuw, Great Black-backed Gull
- Havik, Goshawk
- Kleine Rietgans, Pink-footed Goose
- Knobbelzwann, Mute Swan
- Kokmeeuw , Black-headed Gull
- Kolgans, White-fronted goose
- Ooievaar, White Stork
- Slechtvalk. Peregrine Falcon
- Smient, Wigeon
- Soepgans, domestic goose
- Sperwer, Sparrowhawk
- Torenvalk, Kestrel
- Tureluur, Redshank
- Wintertaling, Teal
- Wulp, Curlew
- Zilvermeeuw, Herring Gull
This shows a fairly similar spread of species (waterfowl, gulls and raptors) to those found in the UK – click here for 2025 records – considering the differences in populations levels and the inherent biases and randomness of the data.
I found it interesting that there were many negative cases for Mute Swan.
I guessed that Tureluur would be Redshank before looking it up – great name which must (surely?) be based on its vocalisations.
