This is the day when you might see some St Mark’s Flies. They are big hairy things that are a bit annoying.
But there are no flies on me.

Well they aren’t annoying to the hobbies that arrive on the Somerset Levels in April! They are often their major food until the dragonflies become available.
Trevor – I’ve been looking out for Hobbies – have yet to see one this year.
aka Hawthorn Fly. Good for trout at Chew Valley. Black wool and hen hackle and some dangly legs of melanistic Gooney tail feather fibres tied with knots in them.
Never annoying to a trout fisherman! This year I have seen few flies by the water….
