House prices skydance in one street in Bracknell

There’s a newish estate in Bracknell where all of the roads are named after birds.  Each of the signs has a picture of the bird and a QR code, which takes you to the relevant page on the RSPB website.
Apparently, this was all the idea of a local councilor, perhaps to make up for building on a relatively nice bit of farmland.
The names range from the mundane Linnet Close (where house prices have slumped) to the excitement of Spoonbill Rise, Capercaillie Close, and Ptarmigan Heights.  But best of all, between these last two, at RG12 8AT, is Harrier Way where house prices are expected to boom – unless of course the houses mysteriously ‘disappear‘.
Perhaps Henry’s search for a home providing a nice ringtail with whom to settle down and plenty of food is over.  In addition to four ring-tails (one on each of four signs), Pipit Green and (black) Grouse Meadows are nearby.

Other Harrier Ways are available in Elk Grove,California; Sparks, Nevada; Springdale, Arkansas; and Bedford, UK but unfortunately not in many of our National Parks such as the North York Moors or the Yorkshire Dales.

My thanks to Mike Coker for pointing me in this direction.

  1. “make up for building on a relatively nice bit of farm-land.”

    Will this happen in Malmesbury?

  2. There is “The Harriers” in Sandy and your nightmare, “Linnet close”!

  3. Re naming streets on what were once greenfield sites wouldn’t it be more appropriate if instead of the predictable Fox Close and Ash Drive we used Flattened Oak Road, Homeless Lapwing Street and Badger Free Avenue etc, etc?

  4. Is there a Grouse Drive that we can campaign to have replaced by Grouse Walk?

    1. You could envisage GW(C)T sponsoring a raptor free development?

      H&OT Lapwing Close in Merrick’s Meadows? 😉
