Techy update

I know this technical stuff is quite dull but I’d like to keep you informed of what we will call progress.

As best I can tell, for most people the change in server hosting has been either neutral (wasn’t a problem before, isn’t a problem now) or positive (loads quicker, hooray!).

For a few people, there are a few glitches – in particular the loading of ‘old’ posts. The 34 of you who helped by doing the little test mostly (well over 90%) found that the blogs loaded successfully (but I would expect it to be very close to 100% so it’s not good enough).  However, one guest blog, Georgia Locock’s blog on Spurn, only loaded successfully for nearly 60% of you and that is way off being acceptable. That is the blog that I’ve found difficult to load from a link too (and a couple of people on Twitter – including Georgia herself – said it wasn’t loading) so there is definitely a problem (and it seems to affect some posts/links more than others (and I have more evidence of this)).

So I’ve been back on the ‘phone to GoDaddy and this time I spoke to a woman. She says there is a problem of which they are aware and which they are fixing but which may take a while and that I should try again this evening. I will.

I’m never convinced when the answer to my problem is ‘Wait, and it might get better’ but that is the right thing to do, I guess.

So, fingers crossed.

I’ve removed the social media buttons and the Like/Dislike buttons (and done some other stuff) just to cut down the number of things going on on the blog and to make everything as simple as possible.

So, that’s what is happening. Just so that you know – whether you wanted to know or not! Thank you for your patience (although for most of you everything is working fine so you haven’t had to be patient – but thank you anyway!).

  1. Thank you for removing the social media buttons. When reading the blog on a tablet or phone they resize disproportionately until they take up about half the screen and appear to be linked to rather bizarre pop-up adverts.

    1. Yes I had that problem too. It seems to have been a fairly recent development though – it never used to be a problem.

  2. First time for me today for a while where those pop up adverts have not appeared at the bottom of the page, so that’s definitely an improvement. Quicker to load too. To be honest thought the problem was mine and would just have to put up with it!

  3. Pop up ads have gone for me too thankfully! They made reading the blog on a phone much less pleasant.
But if they bring in some revenue I can live with them.
