An evening in Ipswich

On Wednesday I had the privilege of giving the first Derek Moore Memorial Lecture to a crowd of c130 people in Ipswich.

Derek was a mate of mine and a character, and achiever, in the nature conservation world. We miss him, and in particular the Bird Fair is a diminished place each year without catching  the sound of his round East Anglian accent.

Those of us who knew him remembered him on Wednesday, and those who didn’t perhaps got a flavour of what he was like.

But in addition the crowded room meant that the Suffolk Wildlife Trust (of which Derek was once CEO) raised money for their Carlton Marshes appeal and I sold a few books.

I also persuaded a few people to sign Gavin Gamble’s e-petition as numbers went up in the Suffolk Coastal, Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, and Ipswich constituencies – they made up a high proportion of the increase nationally over Wednesday evening.

I’m pretty sure Derek would have approved of that.  And even if he didn’t, then we would have had a good natter about it!

Thank you to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and the Suffolk Ornithologists’ Group for the invitation.

And if you were in the audience and meant to sign but forgot – here is the link. Thank you. Now go ask some friends to sign too please!
