Other people’s e-petitions – a selection

My attention was drawn to the first of these e-petitions by a fellow Northants resident but then I had a little mooch around the site and came across a few others which relate to more local (or in the penultimate case, national) issues rather than UK ones. It’s a fascinating insight into the minds of the UK population – and a way of learning a bit about some issues. I’m rather disappointed that the petitions no longer state which government department they are aimed at – so one can’t search for all the ones related to Defra (which I’d quite like to see).  If you have a look at these then I warn you, you might get hooked. No wonder productivity is low in the UK with such distractions available for us.

  1. A suspicious amount of hate for the idea of a Scottish Government existing there. I wonder what the hell that is about, presumably the Scottish Tories shitstirring again.

  2. I am glad to see Arthur Pengragon is busy trying to lever EH out of that stone circle they built right by the A303

  3. I once initiated an e-petition to parliament: it was a few years ago (2012) and called for A Statue for Alan Turing (on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square) together with a tribute to the great Tommy Flowers.

It gained a measly 551 signatures. (I think I was ahead of my time?)

I was interested because I worked on both the IBM Stretch machine and the Ferranti Atlas 1 computer:-) and Colossus was their nearest forebear.

  4. great progress on Gavin’s petition lately, now up to 16,335. Probably helped that Chris Packham referenced it. That said, it really must maintain some momentum. About 120 days to go and so it needs to be attracting about 700 signatures a day. If Gavin is reading, I wouldn’t mind an understanding of how Gavin is currently promoting this to secure that rate of signature.

  5. Let’s not put pressure on Gavin.Even 100 signatures a day from those 120 days would be a fantastic achievement.
Just look at those examples in this blog to see how difficult signatures are to get.
