And then there were two…

So, the Conservative Party membership (which is slightly higher than I thought at 160,000 – it must be all those Brexit/UKIP infiltrators) has the choice of Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt. Crikey! It comes to something when the man who seemed to want to wreck the NHS is seen as the safe pair of hands and the sensible option…

Who do you want to win this Tory leadership contest? There are just two questions in the following questionnaire and an optional free-text section.

I’ll be interested in your thoughts.

  1. Neither of them can be trusted with anything. I strongly believe the Conservatives are corrupt to the core.
We need a new party in power that is not run by the the old school tie brigade and everything they stand for.

  2. I would like to have available neither of the above so that I can register my dislike of both candidates. I’d still be allowed to say why, which is good, even if not being very meaningful.

  3. A difficult choice, both symbolise different aspects of the Conservatives as the nasty party, neither will be good for most people in this country.

  4. probably Boris because the probability of the Tories disintegrating is probably higher – but what a risk in the meantime !

    1. Yes, an awful lot of damage could be done to the environment, society, and the economy before the democratic annihilation of the Tories.

  5. Yes, I have voted Conservative, as well as Lib.Dem, Labour and Green depending on the type of election and my perception of the candidate’s quality. I’m not committed to any political ideology and use my vote to support whichever party/candidate seems to offer the best option in any election. I think we are currently in dire straits with the leadership of both main parties regardless of who wins the latest Tory merry-go-round.

  6. The Tory Party really are showing their true base colours now. The shallowness of their policies and total detachment from the lives of many in the UK is astonishing. Saturday’s Guardian reports on a Tory membership survey showing that only 20% believe that austerity has gone too far and 14% believe that Government should re-distribute income from the better off to the worst off! To me these beliefs are quite shocking, Victorian values are alive and kicking us all. They really are quite nasty.

    1. Arrgh a Guardian reader, what is wrong with you people, don’t you believe in democracy? Perhaps only when it comes up with the “right” result!

  7. To quote Bernard Black – “It’s an impossible choice. I’ll just have to hope when I flip the coin, it somehow explodes and kills me.”

  8. Totally unable to answer Q2 either as neither
Q1 were you talking national or local politics?

I don’t have a vote but suspect Boris Johnson will get in due to nature of current Tory membership but then there are some Tory MP’s prepared to put country before party over no Deal Brexit and will vote Govt down in national interest such as Grieve Ken Clarke & probably others.

Where that leads us not sure.

What happens then I am not sure- but a Govt of National Unity could form perhaps

  9. Blimey O’Reilly. Hobson’s Choice. I’d make a right mucky of my ballotpaper and would probably draw Extinction Rebellion logos all over it, plus a few choice thoughts from my agitated brain which usually goes into overdrive somewhere around 3am thinking about where all this current insanity is leading us. Sorry Mark, I can’t respond, but could do a nice drawing of butterflies to go on the ballot paper…..

In truth, I couldn’t vote for either of them. The nasty party have had their day and have proved untrustworthy and uncaring.
