And another…

Where is the Werritty report and will it be fit for purpose?

Why are NE licensing brood meddling instead of clamping down on wildlife crime?

Why has no Defra minister ever condemned the scale of illegal killing of protected wildlife on driven grouse moors?

Why is the Moorland Association not ostracised by statutory agencies since its members and their employees are the source of widespread wildlife crime?

Why did the Glover report duck the issue of wildlife crime in so-called protected landscapes in England?

Please sign this e-petition calling for driven grouse shooting to be banned.

  1. The reply to your questions are simple to answer, the grouse moor estates where the illegal slaughter is taking place are being given unprecedented indirect protection by government. This protection is being supported down the chain by the courts where cases of killing protected species are either dismissed or pitiful fines and community service are handed down. My experience has proven that some police officers are allied to estates by taking an active part in game shooting, turning a blind eye to the persecution, and or frustrating field work carried by a number of raptor workers.

  2. I too have a question. If more people than ever are now supposed to be aware of wildlife crime, how come those people are not signing this petition. Wilful blindness may well be the case in our politics and courts, but does that have to extend to our major NGOs as well?
Many groups could at least be informing their memberships that this petition is out there to sign. That they are not doing so needs to be addressed.

  3. The answers to your questions Mark are because to a very considerable extent the vested interests of many Tories and this Government are very much associated with grouse shooting. As a direct result of that there is all the killing of other wildlife eg mountain hares, that goes on on grouse moors. Plus all the serious environmental damage to moorland that results from grouse shooting.
