Kerry McCarthy MP says ‘Ban driven grouse shooting’

Kerry McCarthy MP (Labour, Bristol East) says:

Only a minority of people choose to participate in the so-called “sport” of grouse shooting, which causes the unnecessary and cruel deaths of millions of game birds every year, but their hobby has an impact on us all. Moorland that is burnt or drained greatly increases the risk of flooding – as was the case at Hebden Bridge a few years ago. This burning also releases huge amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.

The Government should take a steer from Bradford Council’s vote to ban grouse shooting on Ilkley Moor and introduce a nationwide ban on driven grouse-shooting.

To join Kerry McCarthy, please sign Gavin Gamble’s e-petition which calls for a ban on driven grouse shooting.

  1. Thanks very much, Kerry – I live next door, in Thangham’s constituency. As Ex-Forestry Commission I was also very grateful for your contribution to the forest sales fiasco.

  2. Thank god an MP who actually says we need to get rid of DGS rather than just ‘it needs to be controlled’, it obviously can’t be, it does something nasty to the mental health of those who do it, as well as the land, wildlife and rural communities!
