It’s good to see that this dataset has been updated. I’ve only had time to give it a quick glance but the errors I (we) spotted do seem to have been corrected. I’m told that RPUK will be updating their maps in due course.

This will be dynamite.
After years of pressure from this blog and RaptorpersecutionUK Natural England has released a complicated Excel table of Hen Harriers’ last satellite fixes, in the middle of the night and with no media release or mention anywhere. This coincided with the presentation of … something … we don’t quite know what, and NE don’t want…
Bird Fair 2018 – more thoughts on gender balance.
Authors’ forum: I hear from Duncan MacDonald of Wildsounds (the ‘official’ Bird Fair booksellers), some interesting news on the Authors’ Forum speakers for this year and next year. Duncan has to be thanked for putting a lot of effort in to attempting to redress the gender imbalance in the Authors’ Forum with some success this…
Bird Fair Day 2
I’m back home again after Day 2 of the Bird Fair and we are all having a cup of tea before opening the wine – I knew you wanted to know that. Ten good things about today: The queue to get into the Bird Fair before the gates open at 9am is a great place…
I’m at the Bird Fair again
My plans for the day are to catch Tessa Boase’s talk in the Authors’ Forum at 930am and then do a book signing on the Wildsounds stand at 11am – midday-ish. I’m going to catch Iolo Williams who wants to sign the petition asking for an end to Icelandic whaling (see below) in the Events…
Bird Fair Day 1
I’m just a lightweight – I’m home after a day at the Bird Fair and opening a bottle of wine at 18:30 rather than going to the evening debate (which looks very good) and pushing on through into the night! Ten good things about today: I met lots of friends I met lots of people…
Government promoting William Powell Sporting Agency

If you click on Snilesworth Moor in the above link you are taken to the William Powell website… Days of up to 250 brace can be shot here which, at £150/brace comes to a cool £37,500 for…
Just a small plea (and a big table)
This table was produced by Raptor Persecution UK and it is a valuable resource because it’s quite difficult to find these figures all in one place anywhere else. I assume it is correct – RPUK usually are – and it looks right to me, but I haven’t checked it (because it is a surprising amount…
Labour: It’s time to end grouse moor practices that harm the environment
Sue Hayman, the Shadow Environment Secretary has called for an end to rotational heather burning and an independent review into the economic, environmental and wildlife impacts of driven grouse shooting. ‘Driven grouse shooting uses intensive land and wildlife management to create a false environment in which grouse flourish. Natural habitats and ecosystems are managed in…
The thunderous Findlay Wilde is a friend of mine
The thunderous Findlay Wilde is a friend of mine – but so are his parents, Nigel and Heather, and his brother Harley. I stayed with them on Saturday night after travelling up from Rainham and before going with them to Parkgate. I see on my phone that I have some very sweet-looking photos of 12-year-old…
