Our friends the land owners

One thing I noticed about the BAWC conference was a refreshing lack of nervousness about standing up to the large landowners. Almost everywhere else one goes one hears individuals and large powerful organisations fretting about what the landowners might say. Just saying… I wonder what Henry thinks…   #haveyouseenHenry?

BGBW results

I enjoyed doing the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch – as always. Did you do it too? If so, you and I were two of the 585,000 participants. That’s more than all the political parties put together – so we are voting for birds. Have you voted for the Hen Harrier in this poll yet? The…

Meat-free week going well

It seems a little odd writing about game meat so much when it’s meat-free week. This is Day 3 – no problems so far. Read about the World Land Trust and sponsor me to remain meat-free for the rest of the week.

If it’s Wednesday then it’s Devizes

On Friday I had a lovely evening speaking in Cambridgeshire, on Saturday I spoke at the excellent BAWC conference in Buxton, then yesterday it was Durham (where I heard a great talk from Geirge Monbiot) and tomorrow evening I’ll be in Devizes. I’m looking forward to speaking about Passenger Pigeons (though Hen Harriers are…

One week to go

Yesterday, our e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting passed 22,000 signatures. Thank you everyone! A week tomorrow we will know the final total (I’d guess 22,189) but we already know that in 10 months this e-petition has got into the top 0.5% of most-signed e-petitions on the Westminster government website.  Thank you again! We are…

And another work of art from the BAWC conference

Have you seen Henry? I have! What a stunning boy he is! Henry started his tour of Britain yesterday in Buxton at the excellent BAWC conference. Which grouse moors might Henry dare to visit? Which organisations might be treated to a Henry sky dance? #haveyouseenhenry.

A work of art at the BAWC conference

The very first Birders Against Wildlife Crime conference was held in Buxton yesterday. It was great! Chris Packham likened wildlife crime to destroying a work of art. How would you feel about someone who spray painted and then slashed a Constable painting? And #haveyouseenhenry ?

A few things that caught my eye

the abject ‘you forgot the…now what was it?‘ website seems to have folded up, in that it no longer has its plea for a 100 farmers to sign up to a letter slagging off the RSPB – all gone! all gone! talking of things that are forgotten…Keith Cowieson completely failed to answer the question about…
